WASHINGTON (Indiana's NewsCenter) - The Obama Administration is rolling out a new initiative that would require automakers to boost fuel efficiency in passenger cars to 62 miles-a-gallon by 2025.
Boosting fuel efficiency in vehicles has been a hard fought battle with some automakers saying it would kill truck sales by driving prices up.
The Environmental Protection Agency and the Transportation Department say they will consider raising vehicle fuel efficiency standards to anywhere between 47- 62 miles-a-gallon.
Also in Auto News, U.S. auto sales in September may have accelerated to the fastest rate since the federal government's "Cash for Clunkers" incentive program last year.
Last month was good to General Motors with industry wide U.S. sales nearing them towards a rate of 12 million a year.
The Chrysler Group said they gained to 11.9 million and The Ford Motor Company said deliveries were in the "upper 11 million range."
