WASHINGTON (Indiana's NewsCenter) - While staying mum about a possible run for the Presidency, Governor Mitch Daniels did say he was open to the idea of a value added tax and a tax hike on imported oil.
Daniels made the comments while in Washington to accept the Herman Kahn Award from the Conservative Hudson Institute.
Citing a book written by Kahn, Daniels says it would be most useful to redesign the tax system to discourage consumption and encourage saving and investment.
He says one obvious possibility is a value added tax and a flat income tax.
Daniels also suggested support for increasing gasoline taxes to pay for expenses incurred by the importation of foreign oil.
