FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - Indiana's General Assembly returns next month, and on Friday some nonprofit groups got a chance to sit down with state lawmakers.
The Northeast Indiana Nonprofit Alliance hosted a legislative breakfast followed by a meeting focused on 2 key issues in the upcoming General Assembly, including the regulation of charity gaming.
A number of local charities feel increasingly strict rules on charity gaming are limiting the money they can raise at events.
14th District State Senator Dennis Kruse says, “We've had some for profit entities that came in and did some things wrong and took too much of the money. We want the money to go to charity and I think by just tweaking some little things, it will help a lot of the local charities.”
American Legion Post 82 is closing after losing its charity gaming license.
Funding for regional transportation was also discussed at the event.
