A Kendallville woman is now off the hook for an expensive tollway ticket that we featured two weeks ago.
It was clear that the Illinois Tollway camera caught someone in the act, it just wasn't Jolene Rimmel. While she drives a Sebring, the car in the picture was the wrong color and the license plate was from Wisconsin.
Jolene's connection was a rental car company that owned her Sebring previously.

We contacted the Illinois Tollway and Dollar Thrifty Automotive on Jolene's behalf. Both companies were helpful in helping us piece together how her name was connected with the car that missed 3 tolls, shortly after our story ran, Jolene finally got some answers.
"I received an email saying, we'll take care of it and the tollway said we're sorry, it's taken care of"
In the end, the rental car company did the right thing by paying the 211 dollar ticket for Jolene, our best guess is that a simple registration mistake or stolen plate, snowballed into this problem. What's concerning is that it took so much effort on the consumer's part to clear her name of a phantom ticket that could have potentially opened her up to a collection agency and a suspended license.
"I tried to talk to managers and anyone else and within 3 days after your call, I got an email saying it was taken care of"
Jolene's ordeal is similar to last week's story where an Auburn woman had to battle for months to settle an insurance dispute and while both eventually got the decision they wanted with our help, their both examples of how long and frustrating the appeals process can be for consumers... And somewhere out there, there's a driver who knows they got away with an infraction.
