GRABILL, Indiana (Indiana's NewsCenter)--While towns around the country are cutting corners and pulling back, Grabill, Indiana seems to be moving full steam ahead.
Grabill is pushing development as fast as it can. The town’s newest development, a bulk food store, bakery and deli, should be open in June. The town has built a new access road to its industrial park and will add 23 acres to the park this year. They’re also moving aggressively on their street paving program. One reason for all the activity during a recession is low fuel costs. That translates into things like low asphalt prices.
“All these projects of ours were bid off two years ago so the prices were up, everything's down and so the cost of asphalt's about half,” says town council president Wilmer Delagrange. “I say to every town if they got a project and they got any funds for street stuff everything's coming in about 50% under engineer estimated cost.”
This summer Grabill officials will reengineer the town’s main 4-way stop intersection.
