(Fort Wayne, IN)--The Harrison Square downtown development project moved one step forward this morning.
City officials called it a very important step forward... but one that also came with a small curveball from the Grand Wayne Center.
Fort Wayne City Councilman Tom Smith asked the Grand Wayne Center Board to give the city the $250,000 a year for the next 10 years, which amounts to 2.5 million.
However the board voted to also ask the city to request more money from Hardball Capital.
The amount if any received would then is deducted from the board's contribution.
The city was pleased with the vote, but defended harball's commitment of 20-million dollars to the Harrison Square project.
Construction is expected to begin in the fall on the Courtyard by Marriott Hotel and the 250-room structure will be complete in the summer of '09.
The city expects to finish all of its deals by the end of next week and feels it has its money in order to present the project to city council on July 17th.
