Allen County, IN (Indiana’s NewsCenter) -The Consolidated Communications Partnership decided on a new communications system for emergency responders Wednesday.
The CCP chose Motorola, again, to provide the system for the same price as the last upgrade in 2001.
The upgrade will cost close to $17 million, and there's a discount if cash is used.
The FCC mandated upgrade includes new software, radios and GPS systems for local police and fire departments.
“We've been very pleased with the current system, so there's no reason for us to have second thoughts or reservations on continuing with Motorola,” said Chief Pete Kelly. “So we're blessed. We're going to have a great, reliable system.”
Now, city and county councils must approve the funding. The CCP hopes for approval by the end of June.
