FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) -A push to raise water rates in Fort Wayne has cleared a major hurdle.
The city council voted Tuesday night to approve a 40-percent increase, which will be spread out over 3-years beginning next year.
Average monthly water bills would be about 7-dollars higher beginning in 2015.
City utility officials are seeking the hike to raise more revenue to help pay for water main repairs.
The proposal still needs state approval.
