FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - The city of Fort Wayne got quite a distinction Friday, being named the #1 place to find a job in the entire country.
Mayor Tom Henry made the announcement Friday at a press conference for Frontier Communications.
A 1-year-old publication called "the Fiscal Times" ranked Fort Wayne first based on its 3.9-percent job growth rate.
The publication listed high military spending and the auto bailout as a boost to the economy. General Motors and Vera Bradley's new jobs were also factors.
Mayor Henry says, “To be ranked #1 is unbelievable, we're down to 8.1-percent unemployment rate, which is obviously lower than the state and lower than the country's. We've increased our workforce 3.9-percent, so it's a good day for the city of Fort Wayne.”
The mayor made that announcement as Frontier Communications announced the creation of 60 new full-time jobs, 35 of those positions are already filled.
The company said the area's strong work force was a key reason the company decided to expand here.
