Starting July 24th, Indiana's minimum wage will rise from $5.15 an hour to $5.85 an hour. This would be the first such increase resulting from a new state law that ties Indiana's minimum wage to the federal rate. Minimum wage will eventually go up to $7.25 by July 2009.
According to legislative co-sponsors of the Indiana bill, the raises will benefit about 36-thousand workers in the state. The state minimum wage covers workers in smaller businesses or have less than $500,000 in sales per year.
