INDIANA (Indiana's NewsCenter) - Interesting poll results for the upcoming primary election, from the Downs Center for Indiana Politics.
A survey of 400-likely voters in the 3rd District Congressional Race found incumbent Mark Souder with a 6-point lead over his nearest opponent, car dealership owner Bob Thomas.
That's just outside the margin of error of 5-percent.
Attorney Phil Troyer garnered 19-percent support.
16-percent were undecided.
In the Republican Primary to fill Senator Even Bayh's seat the Downs Center poll found Dan Coats with a 12-point lead over John Hostettler.
Marlin Stutzman had 18-percent, Bates and Behney garnered single-digit support and 13-percent of the likely voters polled remain undecided.
Andy Downs from the Mike Downs Center for Indiana Politics says, “What's interesting, though, is we finished polling before the finance stuff came out recently, and quite frankly, we finished polling shortly after Stutzman started running television commercials."
Downs says the poll also showed the top three Republican candidates would defeat Democrat Brad Ellsworth in a head to head matchup in November.
