ARIZONA (Indiana's NewsCenter) - One day before Arizona’s new immigration law takes effect, a federal judge blocks its key component.
Police officers will not be required to check a person's immigration status when enforcing other laws and immigrants will not have to carry their papers at all times.
The judge says the Constitution empowers Congress, not Arizona, to make immigration policy and several parts of the Arizona law were in conflict with that fact.
The case is now likely to head to the Supreme Court.
