INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana (Indiana's NewsCenter)--Indiana State Treasurer Richard Murdock says he'll challenge U.S. Senator Richard Lugar in the 2012 republican primary.
Lugar announced last month he plans to seek a seventh six-year term next year. Murdock made his announcement at a meeting of the Tippecanoe County Republican Women's Club. He says he'll be touring the state February 22nd to make the official announcement. Lugar is a former Indianapolis mayor who first won election to the senate in 1976. Murdock, who is 59, calls Lugar an honorable man who has served his state honorably.
