FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) – The Winter Storm of 2011 has come and gone. Streets are cleared and life is back to normal. How did it get back to normal and what was the cost?
The Fort Wayne District of INDOT dropped 854 tons of salt between February 1st and February 3rd. That’s more than 1.7 million pounds of salt. At $65 per ton, INDOT spent $55,510 on salt. They say their budget is unaffected, and they’re prepared for the rest of winter.
According to the City of Fort Wayne, crews worked 1,800 hours of overtime to the tune of $48,000. The city dropped 1,000 tons of salt at $72 per ton. The total cost to the city with salt and overtime was $120,000. Like INDOT, the City of Fort Wayne says they’re prepared for the rest of winter and their budget is unaffected.
