BROOKVILLE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - A battle is brewing over a nativity scene in Brookville, Indiana as residents are determined to keep it in place despite facing a legal challenge.
A group called the "Freedom from Religion Foundation" out of Wisconsin has written a letter, asking that the nativity be removed.
The group is not threatening to go to court “yet,” but it does lay out court rulings that make it clear a city-owned nativity on county-owned property steps over the line separating church, and state.
Brookville Resident Jenny Hazelwood says, “We are tired of minority groups speaking up and being offended, where the majority of us are really offended. I think if they don't like it here, well then, don't stay here."
The Freedom from Religions Foundation says the complaint about the display came from a member, and that they have members in this area.
