GODFREY, Illinois (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - Two deer trapped on the icy Mississippi River were rescued…by a helicopter.
The deer were a quarter mile from shore on an ice floe, too far out to reach.
But a helicopter was able to generate enough wind to blow one of the deer to shore, where it soon made its way back to the woods.
The other deer was unable to move, even with the helicopter's help.
Two men went out onto the ice with a rope and dragged it to shore, where a small group of men carried it to safety.
The deer were rescued by private efforts when the Illinois Department of Natural Resources said it was unable to help.
