FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) Get ready to 'live well and feel great' says the YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne. The organization is opening its doors to the public for one week from Sept. 19 - 26. The cost is free.

Six branches throughout the metropolitan area will take part in the event. YMCA officials say they hope the event will attract more people to the organization.

Nicole Liddell, director of mission advancement for the Greater Fort Wayne YMCA, says overall membership has been steady during the economic downturn. However, some branches have lost members in recent years.

The YMCA says it hopes membership will grow by showing the public what it has to offer.

"It's an opportunity to take away that financial barrier this week ... allow people to come in, check it out ... and determine whether or not this is something they are interested in," said Liddell.

Anyone who signs up to become a member before Oct. 3, 2010 will not need to pay a $75 enrollment fee, and nobody is ever turned away for inability to pay. Financial aid is available from the YMCA.

Each day during the week-long event, a certain branch will be featured, bringing free food and drinks for the public. For a complete list of dates and times for local branches, visit http://www.fwymca.org/.
