HUNTINGTON, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) – Huntington Mayor Steve Updike says he'll seek another term.
Updike has had to deal with several opponents after laying off about 30 city officials and firefighters, proposing to annex an area of land just outside the city and hiking the cost of trash collection. He says those sacrifices helped cut the budget by four million dollars during a troubled economy.
“We've started to turn this city around,” says Mayor Updike, “We brought in a thousand jobs since I've taken over, we've lost jobs, we're bringing them back, the downtown is turning around, the attitude is turning around. I want to finish this out.”
Six other candidates are vying for the job, five other Republicans and one Independent.
