CELINA, Ohio (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - The Mercer County Sheriff's Department is welcoming a new officer to the force. His name is Zak and he's a K-9.
The German Sheppard was introduced Thursday and comes to Celina, Ohio from the Czech Republic.
Zak made it here with $6,500 in donations from local Loyal Order of Moose and Fraternal Order of Eagles chapters.
Chuck Staugler of the Loyal Order of Moose 1473 says, “I'm sure they’ll be proud of the way we've decided to give a dog to the sheriff's department. If that dog can take some of the drugs off the streets and keep our kids safe, I'm sure that donation served its purpose.”
Zak replaces the department's former K-9. Who died back in August.
Police say Zak still needs some maturing, but he's ready to help out.
