UNDATED (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - Obesity and smoking may be the reasons why the U.S. has a lower life expectancy rate than other high-income nations.
A study from the National Research Council found that the effects of Americans’' widespread smoking 30- 50 years ago are playing out in today's mortality rates.
Also, one third of the gap in longevity is attributed to America’s high obesity rate.
Experts say the major gap in life expectancy is significant because the U.S. spends more on health care than any other nation.
