FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) Last week a six-year-old girl from Mishakawa, IN bagged a six-point buck.
Grace Peregrine Zerbel loves the color pink and stories of princesses. She also loves to hunt. Grace was hunting with her father in Michigan when she bagged the buck on the first day of firearm hunting season.
In the state of Indiana there is no age requirement for hunting. If done so responsibly and within the guidelines set forth by the Department of Natural Resources, hunting can be done at any age. Those born after 1986 must take a 10-hour hunter safety course and earn a license.
John Salb, Indiana Conservation Officer, appreciates the time Grace and father spend together. He says kids these days spend too much time inside, on the computer and in front of the television. He says that Grace will get to see more in a couple rounds of hunting than most kids will see in an entire lifetime.
Grace pulled the trigger on her firearm while her father held it. He says she sighted it, they double checked, and then she fired. It was her first kill and it came in at 160 pounds.
