INDIANAPOLIS (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - One of the most recognized voices in sports history Tom Carnegie has passed away.
But people are around here knew him more for his voice at the Indianapolis 500.
Beginning in 1946 all the way up to 2006, carnegie was the track announcer at the Indianaplis Motor Speedway, which means he called 61 500’s, along with 12 Brickyard 400’s and six United States Grand Prixs.
His famous lines: “It's a new track record”, and “He's on it”.
You may not have known the face, but you knew the voice
Carnegie passed away at the age of 91.
