ARCADIA, Ohio (Indiana's NewsCenter) - The flames from this weekend's train derailment near Arcadia, Ohio have been extinguished.
That’s according to the Hancock County Emergency Management Director who says firefighters had most of the flames under control by late Sunday night.
Authorities estimate that at least eight cars carrying more than 30,000 gallons of ethanol exploded after they tumbled off the tracks early Sunday morning.
The accident prompted evacuations of the rural area Northeast of Findlay, Ohio.
"It was just a boom. I've seen on TV where places have burned and cylinders explode, that's what it sounded like, just a boom. And then a
great big ball of fire up in the air," recalled one Arcadia Resident.
According to Norfolk Southern Director of Public Relations Rudy Husband, two workers were on the train at the time.
No employees or neighbors were hurt.
The train originated in Chicago, and passed through Fort Wayne before derailing.
The cause is still under investigation.
