Online tax filing has gained popularity with taxpayers, but it has also gained popularity with thieves.
According to a report by the Independent IRS Oversight Board, about 81 percent of taxpayers filed their returns electronically in 2012.
That's about 119 million taxpayers and an increase of four percent over 2011.
The report also states the IRS has identified about 460,000 victims of identity tax fraud since 2008, and that preventing it will continue to be a big priority for the IRS.
