A shocking story from Florida results in the arrest of a 52-year-old man on attempted murder charges.

According to a report from the Tampa Bay Times, and a news release from the Hernando County Sheriff's Office, authorities said the man was arrested this week on two counts of attempted murder and one count of battery for allegedly  breaking into his ex-girlfriend's house and attempting to set her and her new boyfriend on fire while they were in bed Tuesday morning.

Police allege the suspect doused the woman and man with lighter fluid and attempted to start a fire by spraying paint in their direction and igniting it, according to the news release.

The suspect fled the scene on foot, and was arrested on Wednesday, according to the Tampa Bay Times report.
