Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney introduces U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisc. as runningmate
NORFOLK, Va. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney has chosen seven-term Wisconsin Congressman Paul Ryan as his vice presidential runningmate.
"This is the worst economic recovery in 70 years," Ryan lashed out at President Obama's fiscal policies. "Whatever the explanations, whatever the excuses, this is an record of failure."
Rep. Ryan has represented Wisconsin's 1st District in the U.S. House of Representatives since 1999. His constituants voted for Barack Obama in 2008.
He serves as chairman of the House Budget Committee and sits on the House Ways & Means Committee.
Other names reported in the lead up to the announcement included Sen. Bob Portman, R-Ohio; Gov. Tim Pawlenty, R-Minn.; and Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla. But all signs pointed to Ryan when Romney's campaign scheduled the announcement onboard the USS Wisconsin.
"Every once in a while, I make a mistake. But, I can tell you, I didn't make a mistake with this guy," Romney said.
