Alabama (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - The man accused of shooting and killing three people at a party near Auburn University has surrendered and turned himself in.
His surrender comes after a manhunt that began over the weekend.
Desmonte Leonard arranged to turn himself in at a Montgomery courthouse around 7:50 Tuesday evening.
Defense Attorney Susan James served as intermediary after she was contacted by Leonard's family, she called the U.S. Marshals, picked up Leonard, and then drove him to meet investigators.
Police say Leonard opened fire at a pool party Saturday night following a fight over a woman.
Of the three killed two were former Auburn football players, Ladarious Phillips, and Ed Christian.
Auburn Police Chief Tommy Dawson says, “Mister Leonard was charged with 3 counts of capital murder, 2 counts of assault, first degree...I want to thank his attorney Susan Ames of Montgomery for turning him in."
The shooting was at the University Heights Apartments, a building filled with Auburn students.
