FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - Fort Wayne Children's red panda cub has died, the zoo announced Saturday. The cub was 2-weeks-old.

The mother panda, Xiao, gave birth to two cubs on May 31 at the Children's Zoo. The second cub died shortly after birth.

Zoo officials say the cub mortality rate for red pandas is very high, with more than half of cubs dying within the first 30 days post-birth.

Red pandas breed once a year, and are difficult to reproduce, zoo official say. The next possibility for a litter would be next spring.
