Washington D.C. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) – Three commuter jets nearly collide at Reagan National Airport in Washington D.C. on Tuesday.
In an attempt to avoid a storm air traffic controllers in Virginia changed the direction planes were flying into and out of Reagan National. While that information was relayed to the controllers at Reagan, not everyone else got the message.
Two planes were sent directly into the path of another flight that was landing.
Tower controllers saw the mistake and quickly turned one inbound flight south, just twelve seconds from a possible impact with the other planes.
In all, nearly 200 passengers were onboard those commuter jets.
