Illinois Man Sues For Being Trapped In Jail For 31 Hours

COOK COUNTY, Geo. (21Alive) -- An Illinois man is suing the Cook County jail for trauma, after he was trapped behind steel doors for 31 hours.

According to , Farad Polk was visiting his son, who is an inmate, when he entered the waiting room that was under renovation. Once he entered the room, steel doors slammed behind him. He remained in that room for another 31 hours until he broke off a sprinkler head that alerted the fire department.

Cook County jail released the following statement describing the situation as an "extraordinarily unique set of circumstances that unfortunately resulted in him being in that room for that period of time.”
