A heroic action by a Buffalo man Friday morning.

According to a report from Granite Broadcasting sister station WKBW in Buffalo, a local architect was driving to work Friday morning when he noticed smoke coming from a home.

According to the WKBW report:

The man called 911 and began yelling for anyone inside to get out. A moment later, he saw a rear door look like it was trying to be opened.

"I ran to the back and there was a lot of smoke. I saw a woman just laying right there near the door, an older woman . . . she was burnt pretty bad, and i just grabbed her and dragged her about 20 feet into the grass of the neighbors yard." the man said.

A 65-year old woman was taken to the Erie County Medical Center in critical condition.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The woman's husband was not home when the fire broke out after 7 a.m., but he is very thankful that a stranger tried to save his wife.

"I told him 'Thank You' and I feel in my heart that it had to be God that sent him by," the woman's husband said.
