Woman Targets Childhood Obesity With Trick-Or-Treater Note

NORTH DAKOTA (RTV6) -- One woman's Halloween plans are gaining national attention.

The North Dakota woman, who has chosen to remain anonymous, said she is taking on childhood obesity one trick-or-treater at a time.

Instead of giving out candy to every child in a costume, the woman said she plans to target kids who are "moderately obese" and give them a letter.

"I just want to send a message to the parents of kids that are really overweight. I think it's just really irresponsible of parents to send them out looking for free candy just because all the other kids are doing it," she said.

Supporters say the woman has the right idea but critics say she may be overstepping her bounds.

Doctors say children and teens who are very conscious of fitting in with their peers might find the letter more hurtful than helpful.
