Botulism Outbreak Source Set to Re-Open

Botulism Outbreak Source Set to Re-Open

By Peter Ambrose

AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) - The Georgia factory at the center of a
summer botulism outbreak will reopen today.

Castleberry's Food says that production at its Augusta factory
will resume almost two months after it was shut down over a
national botulism outbreak tied to cans of Castleberry's hot dog
chili sauce.

Two of the cases were in Northeast Indiana.

Dave Melbourne, a senior vice president at Castleberry's, says
the company was green-lighted to reopen the plant last week by both
the Food and Drug Administration and the Department of Agriculture.

But company officials say the production line that made the hot
dog chili will not placed into operation yet.
