FORT WAYNE, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) - Allen County is spending an average of $19,000 each year on 911 hang-up calls.
This is a challenge that local officials say is not only costing the department, but it is also restricting emergency personnel's time.
Hang-up calls include disconnected lines and pocket-dial, leaving the line open to dispatchers hearing nothing but background noise.
Officials with the 911 call center urge callers to stay on the line and explain it was an accident instead of hanging up.
