FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) – Buy a pair, give a pair. That is the motto of Tom's shoes and Tuesday, was a worldwide initiative to bring awareness to their cause.

In Fort Wayne, students at IPFW went going shoeless and talked to people about the importance of getting shoes to those in countries who don't have the luxury.

Coordinators with Tuesday's event, point out that some children walk, barefoot, long distances to get to school or fresh water. Along the way they contract diseases that can often be deadly.

"Everyone is thinking we are a bunch of crazy folks,” says coordinator Jamie Curtis, “They think we are a little silly for going barefoot but they definitely notice that, ‘Hey you're going barefoot. Why, it's freezing?’ And then we are able to get that conversation. Curiosity sparks the conversation."
