Avilla, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) - The first day back in class following the massacre at a Connecticut school became much easier in Avilla Monday when a man showed a group of young children there are still good people in the world.
"Today was a really rough day to come to school as a teacher," said Jamie Worman, teacher.
Although it wasn't easy the teachers at Oak Farm Montessori in Avilla met with their students Monday. They answered questions about the tragic shooting that claimed 26 lives at Sandy Hook Elementary Friday and then started their day of learning.
First on the agenda, shopping for Christmas gifts for families in need. That's when a man decided to teach these children an important lesson with a random act of kindness.
"There's still good people in the world, there's not all bad people," said Bella, student.
"We do everything that we can to make them feel safe but there was that little bit of apprehension in the air today as we were shopping," said Worman.
But then they were all given an incredible gift because of their generosity in helping others...
"When we were going to check out this nice man offered to pay for everything," said Travers, student. "After what happened at Connecticut I felt bad but then after this I felt awesome, great and not worried."
Together the gifts cost more than $400 dollars. The man who paid for all of it is named Wayne, but that's all we know about him.
"We asked if he'd be in a picture with us and he said no that that was ok, that he just didn't want to be in a picture. And he pulled me off to the side and he said, you, me and God knows what happened here today and that's all I need," Lisa Held, bus driver.
The gifts purchased by Wayne are clothes and toys for eight children in need. The money leftover from Monday’s shopping trip will now help them help more families in need.
"Tomorrow we're going to go shopping again, we can go shopping a third day, that depends if Wayne's there again," said Keegan.
