FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - It was a great turn-out for the annual Allen County Council of Veterans Parade. This year thousands of people lined Parnell Avenue waving their red, white, and blue.
From Northside Park to Memorial Coliseum, parade participants paid tribute to veterans from nearly every branch of the military and the sacrifices they've made in the name of freedom.
Leona Brim of Fort Wayne says, “It just means a whole lot. Because they fought, and a lot of them died for us, and we're free because of that and only for that reason."
Vietnam War Veteran John Lumpkin said, “My father was World War II, my brother was Korea, my other brother and myself were both in Vietnam, and my nephew was in Iraq. No generation untouched."
After the parade the crowd moved inside the Coliseum for a Memorial Day ceremony honoring fallen veterans.
