FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - A Fort Wayne man tearfully told an Allen County Judge how sorry he was for killing his brother.
Judge Fran Gull accepted a plea agreement that sentences 27-year-old Jeremy Spence to 30-years in prison, with 10-years suspended, for the involuntary manslaughter of his 28-year-old brother Jeffrey.
An intoxicated Spence stabbed his brother after a heated argument in June.
During Friday’s hearing, a tearful Spence told the court he was extremely remorseful and loves his brother.
Judge Gull told Spence he wasn't a "typical offender" after reading a remorseful letter he sent her about what happened and Spence's attorney had a similar reaction.
John Bohdan who represented Spence says, “He's a very young, bright, articulate young man and he has a lot of remorse for what he did. He wanted to articulate to the court and I think he did, it was a very moving letter.”
With good behavior, Spence could serve just under 10-years for his brother's death.
His family was in tears when they heard the sentence.
