FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) – Hundreds of people lined up out at Weisser Park to get their hands on a free back-to-school backpack, provided by Elevate City Church.

The backpacks were filled with all the school supplies a child needs when heading back for a new year: pencils and pens, notebooks, and folders.

Members with the church say this is really about giving back to the community.

“This is an area that's on our heart and a lot of needs out here so we just believe that the best way that we can do that and impact this area is by showing love to all these people,” said Kyle Mills, Senior Pastor at Elevate City Church.

The church handed out more than 300 backpacks throughout the day.
