Emergency Alert System Coming To A Cell Phone Near You

Fort Wayne, IN (Indiana's NewsCenter) -- The Emergency Alert System is coming to your phone.

Starting next year, some cell phone users will receive warnings on their phones.

Severe weather alerts, national emergencies, and Amber Alerts will soon be texted directly to your phone.

The service will start later this year in New York City and Washington D.C.

Texting charges will apply, but users can opt out of the service.
