FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - When you think of abuse you might not think of the elderly but Wednesday marks the second annual World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.
The Forensic Advocacy Center for elders held an expo that brought abuse and neglect of the elderly to the fore front.
Free lunch and health screenings were provided as well as educational programs.
Volunteers from different organizations offered tips for elders and warning signs of abuse.
Owner of Comfort Keepers Julia Anders says, “We just think it's very important especially at comfort keepers because we work exclusively with seniors and it's just such an important issue. I mean elder abuse is an unfortunate event, but it does happen and people need to realize that so this is a great event."
The Indiana Secretary of State, Securities Division, hosted one of the workshops helping the elderly become aware of financial exploitation.
