FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) – A 40-year-old man is dead after a shooting near South Side High School.

The Allen County Coroner identified the victim as Brandon Dock and declared his death the 41st homicide in Allen County in 2013.

Around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Fort Wayne police were called on reports of a shooting to Premium Cuts Barbershop, 3530 S. Calhoun Street. Police found a male victim lying on the ground unresponsive in front of the barbershop. Police say fire and medic personnel pronounced the man dead at the scene.

The shooting happened across the street from South Side High School. Police say the school was placed on lockdown for approximately 30 minutes after the incident. Students at South Side were released at 2:35 p.m., 55 minutes before the shooting. Fort Wayne Community Schools (FWCS) spokesperson Krista Stockman says students who stayed after for extracurricular activities were instructed to stay away from the scene as not to interfere with the police investigation. No one at the school was hurt.

For approximately three hours, police closed down a section of S. Calhoun St. during the investigation.

According to police, witnesses say the suspect ran from the scene, but police continue to gather credible witness information. The incident remains under investigation.

In the meantime, police are asking anyone who might have witnessed the event to contact Crime Stoppers at (260) 436-STOP (7867) and leave an anonymous tip, or call their non-emergency line at (260) 427-1222 with information.
