FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) – Appleseed Comic Con celebrates comic book culture and hosts some legendary artists right here in Fort Wayne.

The event began Sunday at the Grand Wayne Center featuring over 100 talented comic book writers and artists including legendary artist Jim Steranko who has written stories for Marvel's “Shield”, “Captain America” and “The X-Men.”

The Appleseed Comic Con is a great opportunity for fans to meet and greet the people that have been writing and drawing comics their whole lives.

Those on hand have seen first hand how the comic book industry has changed.

“The super heroes just aren't characters in funny pages, they become a mythology for us. We all know what it means when Clark Kent opens up his shirt. We all know what it means when we hear, ‘with great power comes great responsibility’. It's part of our mythology, it's part of who we are. And because of that it really allows these other kind of multimedia outlets to thrive,” said Zach Kruse, Founder of Appleseed Comic Con.

The Appleseed Comic Con runs Sunday from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.
