Foster Park Hits Century Mark

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) -- Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation celebrated Foster Park's 100th anniversary Friday.

City officials and youths from Crossroad Child and Family services planted an Oak and a Tulip tree in the park as part of the anniversary celebration.

Fort Wayne has once again been honored as a Tree City USA. It has also been honored for the Ash Tree Replacement Program which is running ahead of schedule.

Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation Director Al Moll says, "The plan that we had presented to the Mayor was a ten year plan for replacement, so we're ahead of that process. But I think you'll see a slower replacement going forward. We'll get the canopy back up."

Fort Wayne recently won awards for addressing problems associated with the Emerald Ash Borer.

Now other cities in Indiana have begun to adopt Fort Wayne's Ash Tree Replacement Program.
