FORT WAYNE, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) - Thousands of young girls across Northern Indiana and Michiana will start their annual cookie sale Friday.
Cookies will be available at area retailers, door-to-door in neighborhoods and some employee break rooms until March 12.
Much of the proceeds will go towards Girl Scouts for their upcoming camps.
"The one I went to (last year) was celebrating the 100th year of Girl Scouts," local Girl Scout, Julia Till, says. "We went back to the past, and did all the stuff the first Girl Scouts did."
This year the Girl Scouts are teaming with American Red Cross for the second half of January. Anyone who donates blood between Jan. 11 and Jan. 31 will receive a free Girl Scout cookie.
"It's not a cookie sale," Connie Frederick, product sales manager for Girl Scouts of Northern Indiana-Michiana, says. "It's a cookie program. The girls are having fun and they do not realize they are learning things."
Also this year, the Girl Scouts have started their Cookie Share program, which provides cookies to military members.
