HENRYVILLE, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) – Residents in Henryville, Ind. are marking the first Anniversary of a deadly tornado that destroyed much of the town one year ago.
The F-4 tornado was one of several twisters to hit Indiana and Kentucky on March 2, 2012. The natural disaster claimed 39 lives in both states as a result of the tornadoes that packed winds up to 175 mph.
Henryville Junior-Senior High School was destroyed, ripped apart just 20 minutes after students were sent home.
Hundreds of other buildings were also damaged or destroyed. Many have since been rebuilt, including the school.
Senator Joe Donnelly released a statement Saturday in reference to the tragedy saying, “In the face of such incredible tragedy, the true character and spirit of a community is revealed. The first responders, National Guardsmen, and volunteers who came forward in Indiana's moment of need represent the best among us."
