ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (21ALIVE) --- Great Britain has bumped its terror threat level from "substantial" to "severe", saying an attack is highly likely.
British Prime Minister David Cameron told reporters the "root cause" is "Islamist extremism".
He pointed to the recent killing of U.S. journalist James Foley as clear evidence that the terror threat from "ISIS" is not a foreign conflict that the country can hope to ignore.
Allen County Homeland Security Director Bernie Beier says it's not clear if the U.S. will also raise its threat level, but he says oceans that we used to rely on as a shield from trouble are no longer a foolproof safety net.
" We're no longer protected by that ocean, because of air travel because of the cyber, and all those things, so we're just now starting to experience, you know, in the last 10 or 15 years, the things that Europeans, the things that Britain has experienced, the last 30 or 40 years," Beier said.
Beier says the Office of Homeland Security pushes a campaign message that, "If you see something, say something" to the proper authorities.
