FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) For many, the economy still hasn’t turned around and finding ways to save money is crucial for many people. How about dumping the cable or dish for some digital rabbit ears?

It might sound old fashioned to have those ears extending from the top of your television set, but more and more people are hopping into using some digital rabbit ears.
They generally are as cheap as $10 and generally don’t cost more than $50. It’s a one-time fee that could prove to benefit you.

Like the local stations? In Fort Wayne there are about 20 of them. With a dish or cable provider though, you can only watch five of them. Typically they’re ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX and PBS. Not only are you limited in how many local stations those major providers will give you, but you’ll also have to pay about $60 each year for them.

Pay a one-time fee for some digital rabbit ears, and you’ve got four times as many channels for a fraction of the cost. It’s really an investment.

Here are the top five reasons, according KAS Satellite and Cable, Inc., that you should own a TV antenna system.

1. HD signals via TV antennas are better HD quality than cable or satellite TV with no monthly bill.
2. In bad weather, dish providers are the first to drop service to local channels. Having rabbit ears or a digital antenna will not drop your local channels, which could prove to be the most important channels in any weather event.
3. Why pay for five to six local channels when you can get 20 for free?
4. Live in Lagrange and want South Bend weather forecasts, but want Fort Wayne news? Cable providers can’t give you both. A digital antenna can. Antennas can cross over demographic marketing areas meaning you can access multiple stations from multiple cities.
5. Most importantly, the picture quality is the best with a digital antenna. The feed to your TV is virtually uncompressed and with today’s HD picture quality, you can’t beat a digital antenna.
*Note: KAS Satellite and Cable Inc., provides both antenna and major dish and cable providers.*

Are twenty local stations not enough for you? Check out hulu.com and Netflix. Afraid to miss you favorite shows on A&E for example, go to their website. They post their shows as well. If you’ve seen it on TV, you can find it on the web.
