FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) - Budget troubles plague IPFW once again as they face a $4 million deficit. But university leaders are working together with other campuses and companies in hopes of finding ways to better the Fort Wayne institution.
Sunday, Chancellor Vicky Carwein kicked off the inaugural fall bus tour in the Walb Union classic ballroom on IPFW’s campus.
The tour is taking place over fall break. It includes visits to Purdue, NCAA headquarters, IUPUI, Hardin Farms, Zimmer and Purdue Calumet.
The visit to Purdue's campus Sunday included a dinner at President Mitch Daniels' house.
Mayor Tom Henry was on hand Sunday when the group left the Summit City.
“This is really a unique opportunity for the professors and a couple of the students at IPFW. I've never heard of, about anything like this happening in a university, where a whole busload of professors and some students get together and they're going to travel for the next two or three days around the state of Indiana,” said Mayor Tom Henry, (D) Fort Wayne.
40 faculty, staff and administrators are taking part in the three day bus tour. The planned visits and discussions are intended to be informative and to stimulate thinking around new ideas, initiatives, projects and partnerships.
