Indiana Solider Dies While In Afghanistan (VIDEO)

INDIANAPOLIS (21Alive) – An Indiana solider has died while serving in Afghanistan.

Staff Sgt. Randall R. Lane, 43, of Indianapolis, died of a non-combat related illness at Camp Pheonix in Afghanistan on Sept. 13, Governor Mike Pence and Indiana National Guard Adjutant General, Maj. Gen. R. Martin Umbarger announced Sunday.

Staff Sgt. Lane deployed in January 2013, as a member of 1438th Transportation Company, stationed in Franklin, Ind., and served as a Motor Transport Operator providing security for convoy operations in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Staff Sgt. Lane’s funeral is being arranged.
